No one is stranger to the saying, nothing is permanent. And if you ask about its correctness, everyone would say it to be right. But is it really so? It would have been so if we talk about anything except Hand Block printed fabrics. This piece of craft has been immemorial. It has sustained the bruises of time and has always emerged victorious. Fashion lovers have still remained optimistic about block printed fabric and they continue to remain so. That is the reason why nothing has been able to replace their taste for block printed fabrics

India is a land of diversities. You will find diversity in almost everything. Be it language, dresses, fabrics, cultures or weather, everything here is diverse. But the love for block print fabrics is not diverse. One can find different varieties of block printing patterns and styles in different parts of the country but what remains constant throughout is their demand. Despite the era of globalisation, you’ll hardly find anyone who does not have a taste for block printed fabrics. What makes them so popular amongst the fashionistas? The answer lies in their creation. The method of preparing hand blocks on the fabric has its own fascination. Everything depends upon the creative mindset of the creator. What he thinks about designs, preference of colors and how much to print and how much to leave are some of the questions the block printer has to be prepared with while doing this work.

Talking about the process, it seems to be a simple one but in reality it is one of the most complicated things while doing block printing on the fabric. The creator has to pay attention to each and every design that he carves out on the teak block. One mistake here and there would spoil the whole design as well as lead to immense wastage of teaks. After carving out the designs on the teak block, the creator has to decide about the color patterns that fits well with the type and color of the fabric. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that it is the tedious process of block printing and the output they leave that makes them the most sought after fabrics all around the world.
